Hong Kong Atherosclerosis society is formed in 2002 with Professor Brian Tomlinson as President. It works to promote advances in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease in Hong Kong through research and education. Throughout the years, HKAS has supported a number of scientific programme and conferences that have contributed to the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, initially hosting the Satellite Symposium in Hong Kong to the XIIIth International Symposium on Atherosclerosis held in Kyoto, Japan in October 2003 and it has been one on the supporting organizations for annual meetings of the Hong Kong Diabetes and Cardiovascular Risk Factors East Meets West Symposium since 2003, which has been well attended by endocrinologists, researchers and general practitioners. HKAS has also been a supporting organization for The 5th Annual Conference of the International Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Disease and Type 2 Diabetes and the Metabolic Syndrome in the Asia-Pacific Region Lecture 2008 organized by the Asian Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry – APFCB and various other lectures providing educational updates for doctors from a wide range of medical fields.
